So we have been struggling with getting Tyson to quit sucking his thumbs. I heard from my cousin to try bandaids. The first two attempts failed-he would just take them off. I decided to try once more cause I didn't know what else to try. So one night we put band-aids on Tyson's thumbs and put mittens on his hands before bed. This worked like a charm. We also gave him an incentive. He really, really wants a toy garbage truck. So, I made Ty a calendar with a picture of a garbage truck to remind him and everyday he didn't suck his thumb he got to put a sticker on his calendar. After one month he would get his garbage truck. After about a week and a half we asked Ty what he wanted since he was doing so well and we wanted to reward him with something small. He said he wanted ice cream so we went and got ice cream at Arctic Circle. Well this has all been working great until recently. He went two weeks without sucking his thumbs. And he now doesn't suck his thumbs at night. However, he has started to take his bandaids off during the day and we have caught him several times so he hasn't been able to put his stickers on hence I don't think he is going to get a garbage truck hence we are still fighting this thumb sucking issue when I thought we were getting so close. Hopefully if we keep at it no matter how much band-aids of duct tape (we have recently resorted to this since he has been taking his band-aids off) we use or how long it takes he will soon give up this habit. I hope. Keep your fingers crossed.
