We have a BIG problem

It seems that we now have a thumb sucker in our family. Tyson just started sucking his thumb. He always liked sucking a binkie until we broke him of it at 18 months. Now he is notorious for stealing Eliza's binkie. I can't get him to stop. I have tried everything and nothing bothers him. He still steals her binkie constantly. Somedays I get to the point that I say I don't care suck on the binkie. It is so frustrating. We say all the time we are just going to toss them, that is until Eliza has a crying spell then we immediatley say "where's the binkie." But within the last week or so Tyson has started sucking his thumb. His cousin sucks her thumb and ever since he was over there being babysat he sucks his thumb now. He is 2 1/2 and is NOW starting to suck his thumb. What to do? So not only do we have a binkie stealer but also a thumb sucker. BIG PROBLEM.

I'm so sorry! I'm in the same boat as you. I weaned Claire off her binky when she was 1 year old and she did fine, but a week or two later she started sucking on her finger, so I gave her binky back just for naps and bedtime. Then when she turned 2 I thought it was high time to chuck that binky. So we took it away again and what do you know? She started sucking on her finger AGAIN and she hasn't stopped and she's nearly 5. SIGH. She doesn't do it a TON, but enough that it annoys me. She's also taught her brother to do it a bit (though he doesn't do it much), so although he's 2 1/2 he still has a binky at night because I'm afraid that if I cut him off he'll start doing the same as Claire.

I have no good advice. We've tried just about everything to get Claire to stop. SHEESH.

Love the Post title. It put a smile on my face. Figured it had something to do with him! Ahh lil Ty. Gotta love'em. I say if it soothes him, that's ok, he'll grow out of it when he ready... At least he's not getting up 2-3 times a night still like Tan Man. :)

First of all get rid of the binkie. They do serious damage to the teeth. Coming from the words of my sister who is a dental assistant.
Then for the thumb sucking. This is going to sound horrible but it worked for someone else I know. Whenever he sucks his thumb. Put something that is not so good of a taste on his thumb. My friend used baby orajel, or vinegar sometimes. Gross I know, but it worked. so there are some ideas.
